Mission: Episode 1: The Milk Run
Location: Transporter Room One
Timeline: Mission Day 4 at 0730

Jason arrived at the transporter room well in advance of the scheduled departure time, wanting to see the team off. He wasn't surprised to get there first - well, almost first. In addition to the female Caitian standing behind the console, there was a Bajoran ensign with a heavy backpack standing nervously off to the side.

"Morning, M'rrsha. Ensign," he said. "Or I suppose it's end of shift for you, isn't it, chief?"

"Indeed," she purred with a slight flick of her ear. "You should have waited a little longer."

Jason shrugged. "You shouldn't waste daylight. At least that's what I've been told."

"I thought there was some human saying about the early worm gets a bird... wait is that right?" Vex asked, adjusting the phaser rifle that was slung across his chest.

Niobe stepped through the doors just as thier cheif tactical/security officer was buthering yet another commonly used phrase. She pinched the bridge of her nose and sighed heavily. "It's early bird gets the worm, not the other way around. Why is that you can field strip a rifle or rebuild a torpedo guidance system but something as simple as that eludes you."

Khylin was trying much harder than he would ever care to admit to not throw up. He was pertty sure that wouldn't make a good first impression on anyone in the away team...and not after he spent all that time NOT throwing up the XO and CO in the lounge. This was stupid, he had been on away teams before... why did this one have him so rattled. He took several calm, deep breaths, before stepping through the transport room doors.

"Um, good morning."

"Relax there Lt. Cooper," Vex said, clapping him on the back. "I only bite if you ask."

Lieutenant Chapman stepped into the transporter room at the wrong moment, only catching the end of Dawnrider's statement.  He looked over at the Chief Tactical/Security Officer and proclaimed, "I'm not even going to ask."  Moving further into the room, he checked the phaser holstered at his left hip and the tricorder holstered at his right.

"Now, where's the fun in that?" Vex said, giving the ops chief a wink.

Niobe rolled her eyes. "Its probably better that you don't Mr. Chapman. We don't need to encourage his ego, I'm not sure we have enough power to reroute to the SIF so that the hull doesn't breach."

"We'll be lucky if we have enough power to beam him down with that ego."  Andrew added dryly.

"I can always reroute power from the warpcore, though he might get stuck in the pattern buffer for awhile," Niobe said.

Vex grinned and batted his eye lashes at the two officers. "You both wound me greatly."

"Great, looks like we've got everyone here," Jason said to the group. "Sorry to bring you in this early, but it's just passing local dawn, and it's probably better to start your first day early and have plenty of daylight if you need it."

Chapman nodded in undertanding.  "Early bird catches the worm and all that."

"Less chance any of the noctural predatory fauna will be out wandering around too," Vex said. "They've got large candid that has a nuerotoxin in its claws that's capable of killing in less than thirty seconds."

"They have a what?" Khylin asked. He tried to keep his voice from raising a few octaves but judging by the look on Vex's face, he was only partially successful. "Oh right, I mean knew that."

"Just keep your phaser set on stun and everything should be fine," Vex answered.

Niobe checked hers and then looked up at Vex. "What happens if we accidently stun you?"

"Then the master at arms screams at you a bunch about trigger discipline and signs you up for remedial training," Jason said. "I don't recommend it, it's not much fun. In addition to shooting each other and venomous canines, please try to avoid getting hurt other ways. Automated turrets, guardian beasts, robotic defenders, homicidal AIs - you know, the usual. It's our ship's first away mission, I don't want to see anyone in sickbay at the end and making the paperwork look bad."

"Understood sir," Vex replied, with a smirk.

"I'm not sure which of you lieutenants is technically senior, but I feel like since this is a science mission Chapman or Barton should be in charge," Jason said. "Either of you want to volunteer, or offer a bribe?"

Khylin breathed a silent sigh of relief that someone with more experience would be put in charge. He hoped that it didn't show.

"I'm happy to defer to Lieutenant Barton on this mission."  Chapman told the room.  It made sense to him that she, as Chief Engineer, would take the lead on this mission.

"Me?" Niobe asked, arching an eyebrow. "I'm just here to make sure that things don't go boom... well in a spectacular kind of way. Actually, maybe our resident scientist should take charge of the mission."

"She might be right," Vex answered.

"Um, I don't know if that's a good idea," Khylin said. "Both Lt. Chapman and Lt. Barton are senior and probably more qaulified."

Chapman shook his head in disagreement.  "Rank isn't everything.  Given that this mission falls inside your specilisation, I agree that you should take point on this one.  Lieutenant Barton and I can lend our support as necessary."

"Um, sir?" Khylin asked, looking over at Jason.

"They've got a point, this is primarily science at this point," Jason said. "And it can't go worse than your last away mission, can it?"

"Uh... I mean I suppose not," Khylin replied.

"Don't worry," Vex said, clapping Khylin on the shoulder. "I'll make sure nothing eats you."

"Sounds like you're ready to go then," Jason said, gesturing toward the pads. "I'll be visiting the local government, but the XO is on the bridge if something does explode or otherwise go wrong."

"Well. Good luck and - I guess not good hunting, but you know. Sciencing." Jason gestured for the chief to energize.
