Early Birds

Mission: Episode 1: The Milk Run
Location: Shuttlebay 1
Timeline: Mission Day 3 at 0630

Jayden walked through the doors to the main shuttlebay with a Raktajino in one hand and a PADD in another.  It had been a late night and he hadn't gotten any sleep so he figured he might as well get an early start since he hadn't gotten much done the day before.  As he peered over the safety railings on the upper level, he could see a number of personnel working throughout the bay, and inside a number of shuttlecraft.

"Good morning, Lieutenant." a voice came from behind him.

Turning, Jayden found himself a short distance from a Bolian crewman pushing an anti-grav unit that appeared to be carrying the nacelle off of a type 9 shuttle.  "What do we have here?" he asked, gesturing towards the nacelle with his PADD.

"Well, sir, the Tucker's warp field wouldn't stabilize, so Ensign Grong removed the port nacelle in order to diagnose the problem." the bolian replied.

Jayden gave a half chuckle.  "Well, I'm sure that taking off the nacelle fixed the problem." he said, setting his drink and PADD down on the nearby control station.  "Come on, let's get this back on so we can realign the field.  I'm Jayden, by the way, the new Flight Ops Chief."

"Nice to meet you sir, I'm Crewman First Class Alordra.  I'm one of the flight deck crew."  Alordra responded.  "And, for the record sir, Ensign Grongs default fix for everything is to break it even more." she laughed.

Making their way to the cargo lift, Jayden and Alordra brought the nacelle back down to the hangar bay and proceeded towards the shuttle being held up by a small tractor beam and a number of anti-grav units.

"How long have you been on the Omaha, Alordra?" Jayden asked as they maneuvered the nacelle into position.

"About nine months." she responded, locking the anti-grav sled into position.  "They brought me on during the refit to help direct shuttle traffic"

"I heard they're still working out some bugs from the refit." Jayden commented.  "These old dogs never like new tricks, do they?" he joked.

"Yeah, we've have engineering and ops in and out of here all night.  Crewman Denning got stuck twenty feet in the air a few hours ago when the tractor targeting sensors went out of alignment and then wouldn't shut off.  Took the crew almost half an hour to get him down!  And then there's the melting carpet..."

"Well I'm glad they got the tractor fixed." Jayden said, looking up cautiously at the tractor beam that was holding several tons of shuttle from coming down on the pair.  "But melting carpet sounds interesting."

"Apparently the cleaning drones were programed for deckplate scrubbing rather than carpet cleaning... or so says the engineering crewman I had lunch with yesterday." Alordra explained.

"It's always good to have some friends in other departments." Jayden noted as they finished reatatching the nacelle.  "Sometimes you get in over your head and need some outside help."

"And sometimes it's just good to have someone to hang around with." Alordra responded.

"That too." Jayden laughed.  "But then they keep you up all night and you drink three Raktajinos before 0700."

Alordra quirked an eyebrow.  "That sounds very specific, Lieutenant."

Jayden shook his head and laughed.  "Nevermind.  Let's get this warp field back in working order."
