Date Night (Part 2)

Posted on Fri Apr 30, 2021 @ 2:58am by Ensign Emily Rose & Ensign Zayde Bridger

Mission: Episode 1: Coda
Location: Holodeck 1
Timeline: Mission Day 1 at 2000

The rest of the dinner was spent talking about high school, mostly beacause Emily was very interested in his short lived singing career. Zayde spoke openly about his time on the soccer team with Theo and on the swim team. He left out the debacle that wad the debate team. Arguably not one of his finest moments. When dinner was over, they exited the cafe and made their way towards the moon lit beach.

Emily found Zayde to be one of the more interesting men that she had been on date with in a very long time. He was confident but not arrogant and possessed just the right amount of charm and sass. His physcil attirbutes helped that along, clearly he wasn't a muscled head but he did take care of himself. They started walking along the beach, Zayde relying a story about how he and Theo got locked out of the dorms by Red Squad once. He seemed to mention this Theo guy a lot.

"Is Theo an older brother?" Emily asked.

Zayde laughed. "No way, techically he's three months younger than me. He's my best friend. We actually lucked out and got assigned to the Omaha together."

"He's here?" Emily asked.

Zayde nodded. "Yeah, engineering department."

"That's good that you have someone you are so close with onboard."

"Totally."

"My best friend is stationed on Andoria, at the embassy there. He wished he got assigned to somewhere like the Omaha."

Zayde nodded. "I get that, I wanted to be anywhere but on a starbase on permanent installation when I left the academy. I joined Starfleet to see the galaxy, you know."

"Oh I understand completely."

"Do you see a command in your future?" Zayde asked.

Emily chuckled. "Oh I don't know about that. I'm found of the whole 'not my circus, not my monkeys' mantra. Commanding a starship isn't something that I'm even thinking about right now. Mostly, I'm thinking about how not to piss off my boss."

"I can understand that, although given what I've seen of your boss, he'd be pretty hard to piss off."

"There's that, yes."

"Is that...direct when dealing with you?" Zayde asked, recalling his previous conversation with Theo about the Unkar's lack of tact.

"Lt. Dawnrider is always direct," Emily replied. "It's not that he's trying to be insulting but its just not in his culture, like at all. It's kind of terrifying and freeing at the same time. I'm just glad humans aren't that direct."

"Oh I could be," Zayde said. "But I decided its best not to let all the crazy show on the first date, just incase, you know there is a secound date."

Emily arched an eyebrow at him. "A second date? Well, someone is getting a little ahead of himself. This one's not even over with, after all I could find out that you have terrible taste in music. How do you feel about Opera?"

"I'm sure its facscinating but not really my thing...wait does that cost me points?"

Emily laughed. "Oh god no! I can't stand it. Prefer classic jazz from Earth."

"I had a friend who had all of Louie Armstrong's songs memorized at the academy," Zayde said. "Listening to him play them was one of the most entertaining nights of my life. Well, after my 21st birthday that is."

"And what happened on your 21st birthday?" Emily asked.

Truth be told, she barely remembered hers but she blamed most of that on Thrask and his damn Irish whiskey. Why the Andorian had such a hankering for it, she would never know.

"Oh no," Zayde said, shaking his head. "That's a fifth or sixth date story."

"Hmm, sounds like you are bribing me."

Zayde held up his hands in defense. "Not bribing, just stating a fact."

"What if I just get Theo to tell me instead?"

"Oh he won't," Zayde said. At least he really hoped that he wouldn't. He made a mental note to remind Theo that he had plenty of dirt on his friend.

"Whys that?"

"We know too much about each other," Zayde said. "Mutually assured destruction if one of us talks."

Emily laughed. She liked how open Zayde was being, also something different than the last first date that she had been on. And as evovled as most Terran men claimed to be, it was nice seeing him talk about his friend a loving manner.

"I guess that's one way to put it."

"Things get interesting when the Romulan Ale starts to flow...Theo things he can sing, I think I can dance."

Emily arched an eyebrow. "You can dance?"

"You weren't listening, I said I think I can dance...which usually ends up looking like some sort fo nuerogoical disorder set to music."

That caused Emily to laugh. She breifly pictured Zayde looking like he was convulsing, although given his atheltic frame she had a hard time picturing him looking all THAT bad.

"So, you can't dance?"

"I can do alright if there was plenty of alcohol to start with and if someone is leading me. Beyond that I am entirely without hope."

"I think I know what our second date is going to be."

"There's going to be a second date?"

"We'll just have to see."
